MatchBox Review: A Matchbox of Romance and Comedy!


MatchBox is one of the Malayalam releases that had graced the screens here in Mollywood this Friday. This movie has been directed by debutant Sivaram Mony and written by Nikhil Anand and Kenny Perruzi. This flick has been bankrolled by G Suresh Kumar under the banner of Revathy Kalamandir. Roshan Mathew is playing the male lead in this movie and Drishya Reghunath who shot to fame through the movie named Happy Wedding is playing the female lead in it. The teaser of this flick had got great attention when it was released and shared by none other than Mohanlal.

The plot of this movie revolves around the characters played by Roshan Mathew and Drishya. The story develops in and around Calicut district. Ambu is the character played by Roshan and he falls in love with a girl accidentally. The flick tells us how he goes about wooing her and it also shows how his friendships help him on this issue.

Debutant Sivaram Mony had done a decent job as a director as he had come up with an engaging movie which will give you something fresh. It is a youthful movie filled with a lot of energy. It has romance in it and along with that, there is ample importance to comedy and emotions as well. The screenplay was a good one as it really provided convincing plot situations, which served as a platform for the director, to show his craft. The selection of artists was great and Sivaram had got the best of them as well. He had presented the plot very neatly and in a very entertaining manner and gave the audience what they want from a movie which comes from a team of youngsters.

The performances from lead artists were brilliant. Roshan Mathew once again delivered a very natural and energetic portrayal of his character and he is sure to have a big and bright future here as an actor. Vishak Nair too did a fine job and his dialogue delivery style was cool as well. Drishya had done a good job and she looked very beautiful in this flick as well. Others like Shammi Thilakan, Ashokan, Sarath Das, Rony David Raj, Karthika Kannan, Grace Antony, Joe John Chacko etc also done their parts very well to make sure that this flick holds up on the performance side.

DOP from Udayan Ambaadi was beautiful and his visuals were one among the highlights of this movie. Bijipal had tuned the songs and once again he had come up with some beautiful melodies. R Rajkumar is the editor of this flick and Arjun Rajkumar is the sound designer. Both of them had made it sure that the flick is technically sound.

In total, MatchBox is a well -made romantic entertainer which will never disappoint you. It will give you a fresh feel and worth each and every penny you spend to watch it. Go for it if you love romantic tales with a lot of youthful energy in it.
